What Are The Three Cardinal Rules That Will Make You Successful In Your Profession?
Despite our qualifications, capabilities, and efficiency, advancement in our professions depends much on how we interact with others during our work days. These rules will help us in our profession.
I have more than thirty-five years of working experience in various corporations. In my long corporate career, I have recognised a few rules that, if followed diligently, can help all navigate their corporate journey. Though these rules seem cynical, experience suggests that following these rules has been a sound habit for a long and successful professional career.
I call these Three Cardinal Rules. But why do I call these rules cardinal? The word cardinal means central or essential. It also has a relation with the heart. Hence, these rules are at the core of one’s professional career and success. Try not to break these rules and be weary of those who transgress these cardinal rules.
Cardinal Rule No.1: Your colleagues or workmates are not your friends.
We enter our professional life with enthusiasm, energy and hope. As we are fresh out of college, with a degree in hand, and ready to start our professional life, we consider our workplace to be the extension of our institute from where we just passed out. So, we may think that, like our classmates, who became our friends, our colleagues will also be our friends.
